Member agencies provide services that act as a safety net for farm workers and their families in case of personal emergency or natural disaster.
Accident and injury or a move to fewer work hours can create enormous hardships for farm worker families, who often lack medical coverage and live paycheck to paycheck. To ensure that farm worker families can continue to be as self-sufficient as possible, La Cooperativa’s member agencies provide emergency services including housing assistance, community food banks, transportation, childcare, and other resources.
In the event of large-scale disasters such as fires, crop failures, and freezes, additional funds to meet housing, food, and other key needs may be made available by special appropriations. These funds either go directly to the local agency or pass through La Cooperativa on their way to impacted communities.
